I have only been to the ocean once in my life, and that time the ocean was very angry, as hurricane Floyd was on its way. One day, I would love to see the beautiful colours it offers. The Museum of Nature is the closest I will get for now.

My children bring out adventure in me. They make me look at things differently…they make me stop and look around. I admit, sometimes I am so busy, I don’t “listen” to them. But when I do, I see the world in such an amazing way. Thank you my darlings for being in my life.

When I first found out we were about to be blessed with a son, my heart filled with tremendous joy and responsibility. Not only was I being given the opportunity to be a mother to this precious boy, I was also being given the cherished opportunity to raise a loving and wonderful man. He is but just a boy now, but everyday I look into his eyes and see the qualities of a great man. Thank you for picking me to be your mommy. I love you my little superhero. The world is so lucky to have you.

There is a house I have been craving to photograph. Everytime I drive by it, it calls to me, something pulling me to it.  Curiosity got the better of me, and I headed down to explore this abandoned home. I was greeted by a gravel driveway that was covered with overgrown weeds, grass, and wonderful wild flowers.  The warm wind blew, encouraging the tall grass to dance all around me.  A few minutes later, I found the house. I had been looking forward to this moment for a long time.

The house seemed like any other house, but despite being empty and abandoned, it still felt alive.  I could see into the house, where I could imagine the walls of the living room playing host to a family event, and I could also imagine the warmth of the sun beaming down in the kitchen while they enjoyed a delishious meal.  I wanted to go inside to explore more about this energy, but there was broken glass everywhere, and the sight of the slightly ajar doors swaying in the wind sent ripples of fear up and down my spine. It was time for me to go. I had over stayed my welcome.

Perhaps it will call to me again one day…

On a windy day, we went for a short walk. I was tired and just wanted to do nothing, but knowing how much you wanted to do this, I obliged. You were so happy, you danced around.  I enjoyed our short windy walk; I will always have this memory. It has now become part of me, part of our story. Short windy walks are precious…and so are you. I love you so much.

The label simply read Summer 2007. What could possibly be on this? There is nothing else on the label…just Summer 2007. Well, I say to myself, I have a bit of time now… the laundry is in the machine, the kids have been fed and are playing  outside, I have cleaned and scrubbed the bathroom…now seems like as good a time as any time….Slowly the images began to appear on my screen…I just broke down in tears….

The year 2007 was a very difficult year for us. At the end of February 2007, my husband, just shy of his 38th birthday, suffered a heart attack.  He spent a week in the hospital while I kept things going at home as best I could. My goal was to keep things as normal as possible for the kids. I had explained to them what happened and that Daddy was sick, but that he was better and would be getting out soon.  They understood as much as 4 and 2 year old would. 

When these images appeared on my screen, I was flooded with so many different emotions…I was brought back in time remembering such an amazing feeling of peace, calmness, and happiness. It was a perfect evening. My husband and I simply sat back and watched the children running around and playing with eachother. The innocence and beauty of childhood right in front of our eyes…the beauty of OUR family.  At the very same time, I was instantly reminded that this almost didn’t happen…had I lost him, my memories of Summer 2007 would be very very different.

I plan on going through all my images and doing something with them. I want them in special photo albums, and on coffee tables…I want them on the walls of my home, the home we, as a family, have made together. I want these images to also fill my heart with memories that are so fleeting.   Because, you see, my life is my art.
