abandoned ~

“A house is made of brick and mortar, but home is made by the people who live there.”
                                                                                                                                                              M. K. Soni

There is a house I have been craving to photograph. Everytime I drive by it, it calls to me, something pulling me to it.  Curiosity got the better of me, and I headed down to explore this abandoned home. I was greeted by a gravel driveway that was covered with overgrown weeds, grass, and wonderful wild flowers.  The warm wind blew, encouraging the tall grass to dance all around me.  A few minutes later, I found the house. I had been looking forward to this moment for a long time.

The house seemed like any other house, but despite being empty and abandoned, it still felt alive.  I could see into the house, where I could imagine the walls of the living room playing host to a family event, and I could also imagine the warmth of the sun beaming down in the kitchen while they enjoyed a delishious meal.  I wanted to go inside to explore more about this energy, but there was broken glass everywhere, and the sight of the slightly ajar doors swaying in the wind sent ripples of fear up and down my spine. It was time for me to go. I had over stayed my welcome.

Perhaps it will call to me again one day…

July 7, 2010 - 6:40 am Liz - I love abandoned houses. When we drove to the cottage a few weeks ago we went through so many towns that had abandoned houses and buildings. You just wonder what went on there. Great shots!

July 6, 2010 - 9:20 pm admin - I know what you mean...I so wanted to go in, but felt it wasn't right or the right time... I have a very vivid imagination that gets the better of me sometimes...it was time for me to go... ;)
